Houseplant mythbusting - Does misting increase humidity?

Описание: I haven't done anything new in my #mrhouseplantmythbusting series in a long time. So here's one on a popular topic - misting.

If you enjoy misting and your plants are healthy, go for it. For some people it's like a meditative practice. It is an opportunity to be closer to your plants, inspect them for pests and diseases. But if your plants are not healthy, don't do it, as it can cause harm.

And as you can see from the video, it doesn't really increase humidity. Most houseplants adapt very well to low humidity anyway. I've been growing them in low humidity for years.

For plants that are to a certain extent affected by low humidity, the first step would be to buy a hygrometer and check the actual humidity in your home. If it's 10-15%, and you really want some of the few plants that care about humidity, like calatheas, to look perfect, there are other methods of increasing humidity, besides misting:
-keep the top soil moist all the time (plants can only handle this with a lot of light and a porous potting mix). This can increase humidity by around 10-20%
-get a humidifier and keep it next to your plants, to increase the micro humidity in the area. It is very difficult increasing the humidity in the whole room (depending on the room size, whether the A/C or heating is on, whether the windows are open, capacity of the humidifier...), but you can at least increase the humidity in the micro area around your plants.
