Prejmer Fortified Church - A UNESCO Heritage Site

Описание: A Roman Catholic Church turned Lutheran after Reformation, Prejmer Fortified Church was founded by the Germanic Teutonic Knights who started the construction in 1218, in Gothic style. Their work was completed in 1240 by the Cistercians, who took over after their expulsion in 1225.
The Church was strongly fortified in the 15th and 16th century and remained in one piece despite the numerous attacks of the invaders coming from Buzau Pass. Its 270 rooms found in the 5m-thick circular wall could sheltered up to 1600 villagers against an attack.
Prejmer is one of the 7 villages with fortified churches in Transylvania listed on the UNESCO World Heritage Site.
