In 1932, biologist Max Kleiber discovered that animal lifespans follow a simple power law based on mass. Mice to whales — everything on one line.
I took three data points — a cell, a human, and the Sun — spanning 42 orders of magnitude, and fit a line. The slope came back at 0.272, matching Kleiber's biological prediction of 0.25 within two standard errors.
Then I used that line to predict the lifespan of the Milky Way galaxy. It had never seen that data point.
It landed within a factor of 1.4.
In this video I show the full analysis — what works, what's messy, and what fails completely. All data and Python code are on GitHub so you can check every number.
