Sometimes what people call cooperative care is simply the result of trust built over time.
In this video, my dogs line up while I gently wipe their faces with a warm cloth and dry them with a towel. No treats. No restraint. Just a routine they know is calm, gentle, and safe.
When a dog’s welfare needs are consistently met, they learn that being handled by their person isn’t something to fear.
This is where the L.E.G.S.® model and the Five Domains of welfare come together:
• Learning – they have learned the routine and comfort with this experience.
• Environment – calm, predictable handling
• Genetics – respecting who each dog is
• Self – trust built through positive experiences
When dogs feel safe in their world, cooperation often follows naturally.
That’s the difference between forcing compliance and building trust.
