Smoked lamb shanks are an old classic meal that everyone should have their own recipe, and I’m happy for you to use mine until you make your own lamb shank recipe.
This is a family favourite, perfect for a cold winters night, or just as comfort food, paired with buttery mash potatoes and the reduction we make with the braising liquid, you will find it hard to find a better home cooked meal.
As with all my recipes I run through the selection, preparation, seasoning, BBQ set up, times and temps, so you can recreate this recipe at home.

Main Ingredients:
4 x Lamb Shanks
Olive oil
Lamb Rub Ingredients:
2 teaspoons of lemon pepper
2 teaspoons of smoked paprika
1 teaspoon of dried rosemary
1 teaspoon of dried oregano
1 teaspoon of garlic powder
1 teaspoon of onion powder
2 teaspoons of kosher salt
Braising Liquid Ingredients:
400 grams of chopped tomatoes
2 cups of beef stock
1 ½ cups of red wine
1 ½ cups of ginger beer
2 medium onions chopped (skin on)
2 large carrots chopped
4 celery stalks chopped
4 cloves of garlic chopped
¼ cup of honey
1 x teaspoon of kosher salt
½ teaspoon of black pepper
2 teaspoons of vegeta
After Braising Ingredinets:
1 cup of beef bone broth after braising
1 to 2 tablespoons of Plain flour if needed to thicken
