Welcome to the tenth installment of the Chinatown Soup Tea Club.
Jin Mudan is a new tea variety developed by the Fujian Provincial Tea Research Institute in the late 1960s. It is a hybrid of Tieguanyin, the mother plant, and Huangdan, the father plant. Highly adaptable to processing, it has a prominent aroma. Among a series of new varieties, Jin Mudan was one of the earliest to be developed. It combines the floral notes, creamy texture, and pronounced aftertaste of Tieguanyin with the distinctive aroma and flavor of Wuyi rock tea.
This tea originates from Water Blinds Cave in Wuyishan, one kilometer north of Tianxinyan Cave. The tea trees grow in a relatively cool and stable environment, producing a tea with a delicate aroma, full-bodied taste, and refreshing rocky character. Tea Master Gao Peng uses a traditional charcoal roasting process with a double medium fire to preserve the varietal qualities.
The dry tea leaves are wiry, dark, and lustrous, with a restrained aroma. When steeped in boiling water, the tea soup is bright orange-yellow, clear, and transparent. The aroma is immediately noticeable, gradually settling into the water. Floral and fruity notes emerge, and the high fragrance and lively character of the tea become apparent. Smelling the bottom of the cup reveals lilac and honey notes, and the aftertaste lingers for a long time.

☯️ When brewed well: We feel lively and bright, with sweet honey notes and the delicate fragrance of dried roses or peony. The finish is pronounced and mineral-driven, leaving a lasting, refreshing impression.
