It’s weighin’ heavy on me
Pulled tight so I can’t breathe
I don’t fit inside this
busy pink fleur de lys
Can I loosen up the laces
of these corset expectations?
I’ll let them unravel
And fall to the floor
And it’s hard letting go of
what I was taught to need
Take the bones from the bodice
and put them back in me
Now my silhouette is new
And the one that I outgrew
Lies in a heap at my feet
Here’s what I’ll do

Cut shapes not from a pattern
A trembling heart and
A raggedy star
I will reuse all the ribbons
make a shrine here in my room
I hope I find forgiveness
for myself
