Clay monoprinting is a unique form of image transfer developed by Mitch Lyons, a ceramic artist from Pennsylvania. The printing 'plate' is a moist clay slab. Color is applied with clay slip to which pigments have been added. It is then transferred to a substrate, paper, canvas or remay. I use remay (used in the filtration industry) for all my work, I found it to be the best option. One of the main advantages of clay monoprint is its longevity and archival qualities, since the main material is clay, colors do not fade or change with time.
