• Post-WWI conversions: The Treaty of Versailles required Germany to reduce its armed forces and limit the production of military firearms. To adapt, German arms manufacturers such as GEHA and Remo converted many surplus Gewehr 98 rifles into inexpensive hunting guns for the civilian market.
