First, let me say that many of you who will watch this and who are already dancers might take issue with my words. I use these rigid definitions of milonguero and salon as I learned them from Horacio Godoy. He famously tells people that to master Milonguero style it only takes about 6 months but to master salon style it takes 25 years. He says that it only takes six months because you don't have pivoting which complicates the dance a lot. Pivots do occur in milonguero style, just not the type of pivot where the follower would turn their hips away from the leader, like in ochos. If they turn their hips, it's more of a consequence of movement rather than a lead from the leader.
Another thing that people might have a problem with is how I got into close embrace in milonguero style. I have to give credit for this exercise to Carlos and Noelia. I learned this in a class I took with them years ago and it was a really interesting way to learn how to share an axis.
A note to new dancers. I do not use the milonguero style of embrace in my dance. I personally always use the salon style. I don't like to lean on my partners and I don't want them to lean on me. Even though it is not what I would ever do personally, it is what some dancers do and you should know this style just as much as you might know Salon or Nuevo.
