In this video Professor GM answers the question from a student that asked about what angle the violin should be on your shoulder. There are certainly pros and cons to having the instrument more off the side or more in front of you. From having the violin more off to the side, it allows the violinist to perform more to the audience in a concert hall. On the other hand having the violin more in front of you provides an easier reach of getting to the tip which is important especially at first when learning how to play the violin.
