Last Friday, The Village School Girls team carries a 36-3 record into the TAPPS 6A title game against Plano Prestonwood, looking to make history and complete their season-long goal of capturing the program’s first state championship.

The Lady Vikings were ranked #1 in the state for much of the season, thanks in large part to junior post Jada Malone. Malone pours in 11 points for The Village in the final, but after drawing double and triple teams for much of the game, so she was happy to distribute to her teammates. Timberlin Criswell leads a balanced scoring effort for the Lady Vikings with a game-high 21 points. The Village opens up a 19-point halftime lead and coasts to a 75-48 win and the school’s first title.

The win is especially sweet for Head Coach Doug Brotherton, who reflected on how far this program has come in a relatively short period of time.

In the Boys 4A Final on Saturday, The Woodlands Christian Academy looks for its second state title in three years and hopes to erase the memories of last year’s title game defeat as the Warriors face Colleyville Covenant. The Woodlands Christian races out to an early lead behind dunks by Tucker Noey and Bakari Lastrap, as the Warriors build a fourteen point halftime lead.

The Warriors keep their foot on the gas pedal all game long and Lastrap scores a game-high 21 points as The Woodlands Christian Academy wins another state title with a 68-50 win.

On Saturday evening, Westbury Christian squares off with Frisco Legacy Christian in the TAPPS 5A Final. Wildcats senior guard Devin Smith knocks down a three at the end of the first quarter to give Westbury Christian a three-point lead.
Westbury Christian junior Chris Felix leads the way for the Wildcats with a 20-point performance, including this drive for two.
In the fourth, this dunk by Javier Francis puts Westbury Christian in front by four with five minutes left in regulation.
But Frisco Legacy Christian storms back late in the fourth quarter and Westbury Christian drops a heartbreaker in the TAPPS 5A title game, 62-59 is the final.
