In this GTAC-hosted webinar, Peter Courtney, PhD candidate and researcher at Stellenbosch University and the Tinbergen Institute, presents new findings from the SA-TIED programme on the role of education policy in long-run growth.
Drawing on data from national assessments and international studies, he highlights where the education system is underperforming and what policies could deliver real returns.
Courtney shows that more spending alone is not the answer.
Instead, targeted investments in foundational literacy and numeracy – especially for learners on the cusp of university success – can expand the tax base, reduce inequality, and unlock inclusive growth.
