Because this video was on my other channel before moving here, to meet YT guidelines, a tiny portion has been removed to make it slightly different from the original post. For the full show, please download and watch it on the PSI TV channel on your Roku TV, Amazon Fire TV, or VIDAA TV.
I am pleased to welcome Steven Howard to my show today. Steven is no stranger to PSI TV. Last year he and I discussed how good managers can become great leaders, which you can find here. Steven is the author of 22 leadership, business, and motivational books and the editor of nine professional and personal development books. Steve is back with us today to discuss his latest book, Humony Leadership: Mindsets, Skills, and Behaviors for Being a Successful People-Centric Leader. For more info visit https://www.humonyleadership.com/
Steven answers the following:
1. You have been in this leadership space for a while. The workplace has changed so much, especially with an increasing move to a remote access workforce. How is leadership different when your workforce is remote?
2. What is Humony leadership? By the way, you must have made up the word Humony because I could not find it in any dictionary.
3. Historically, organizational results were the focus, often at the cost of human resources. Then unions came along and forced companies to consider their human resource and Richard Branson is celebrated for saying, “Clients don’t come first, employees come first. If you take care of your employees, they will take care of your clients.” Is this what it means to be a people-centric leader?
4. Marcus Buckingham is credited with saying, “People leave managers, not companies.” From your perspective, do you find that to be true?
Considering that recently companies were struggling to get people to work, this does not speak well for retention statistics if managers mess up, and I am sure you share some strategies in your new book. How do organizations retain their good people and attract good people?
5. Motivation may get us moving but it rarely keeps us moving. What does it take to get leaders to develop the discipline of consistently being good leaders?
6. Is there anything else you would like to share?
