This is the last tutorial in module 3 of Part One of this course on fluids. The tutorial will look at how fluids distribute between the intravascular and interstitial space in different circumstances.
The questions that I am going to look at include: What happens to iv fluid when it is injected into veins? Where does it go? How long does it remain in the plasma or the interstitium? Does anaesthesia or the stress response influence how long fluids stay in the body and how they are distributed? Which stays in the bloodstream longer – a fast bolus or a slow bolus?
