Happy Chinese New Year to everyone! 🧨
For today’s "GONGZHEN Practice," I’m sharing a live clip of Drums in Celebration of a Bumper Harvest performed by the New Zealand Chinese Baihua Art Troupe.
This is a precious memory for me—it marks my very first theatre performance as a traditional Chinese percussionist.
Back in 2017, after returning to New Zealand from a China tour with the WuKong Band, I stumbled into joining the New Zealand Chinese Baihua Art Troupe by chance. That happy accident kicked off a magical and wonderful journey into folk music.
Since that day, I’ve leveled up! Not only did I play the big gong, but I also took charge of the small gong—and even became a lion and dragon dancer!
