OPEN CARRY FOR NON-NEVADA RESIDENTS

Anyone who is allowed to possess firearms may lawfully open carry in Nevada, whether or not they live in Nevada. Here are five things to know:

1) There are many Nevada locations where guns are generally prohibited, such as public schools, childcare facilities, the Nevada System of Higher Education, airport secure areas, and post offices.
2) In locations where firearms are allowed, posting a “no firearm” sign doesn’t carry any legal weight. However, gun carriers who refuse a property owner’s request to leave the premises could face trespass charges.
3) Certain people are prohibited from possessing guns at all in Nevada. The most common disqualifier is having a conviction for a felony or for domestic violence, even as a misdemeanor. Unlawfully possessing a firearm is itself a felony offense.
4) Children under 18 generally cannot openly carry guns unless a specific hunting exception applies.
5) People may conceal carry firearms in Nevada only if they are 21 and have a current and valid CCW permit from Nevada or one of the states that has reciprocity with Nevada. Carrying concealed without a valid permit is a felony.
