We do lot of valve repairs instead of valve replacements. So basically in the heart we have four valves, mitral valve, aortic valve, tricuspid valve and pulmonary valve. So operating on this valves in children, toddler or teenager is not a simple thing. It's a little bit complicated because the options are limited. So in adults for suppose if you operate on these valves, we have options of valve replacement, but in kids, uh the options are limited because the valve sizes may not be available. So we may need to uh go for a valve repair. We do a lot of these repairs, uh mitral and aortic. The other advantage of these repairs is the kids need not have uh anticoagulation or blood thinners, which is essential when we replace the valve. That is the advantage of valve repairs. And we do these valve repairs through a minimally invasive approach also. In the sense, uh Usually for a cardiac surgery for uh kids, children or adults, we may have to go through a sternotomy centre incision. But in minimally invasive approach, we go through the side or below the hand also so that the scar may be uh smaller one and scar they may be also hidden under their arm in the axilla region. Number one, Cosmosis. Number two, pain. uh It is uh which is very less in minimally invasive approach. Number three, recovery. The recovery is very fast compared to the conventional approach. These are all the advantage of the minimally invasive pediatric cardiac surgery. So minimally invasive in adult cardiac surgery is already uh established in grown up field.
