According to the Department of Transportation, land development at the New Manila International Airport (NMIA), which is slated to be the biggest airport in the Philippines, is 42 percent complete (DOTr).

According to the DOTr, San Miguel Aerocity Inc. (SMAI) anticipates completing development work on the 1,693-hectare site by the end of 2024 and intends to move forward with airport construction with the aim of having it operational by 2027.

"Land development projects are currently 42% complete. It stated that December 2024 was the projected date for the land development's full completion.

"After that, actual construction will start. The airport operations are scheduled to begin in 2027, which is the completion target, according to the DOTr.

The NMIA's civil works, which are being completed by SMAI, a division of San Miguel Holdings Corp., the infrastructure division of San Miguel Corp., were inspected by Transportation Secretary Jaime Bautista last week.

NMIA is anticipated to generate more than one million jobs, draw foreign direct investments, and expand trade operations in Central Luzon since its first phase can accommodate at least 35 million passengers annually.
