Full Description:
This Grade II listed, 200-year-old stone windmill tower stands fully exposed on a hilltop, facing wind-driven rain and sea spray. Despite previous lime plastering and repointing, the walls remained saturated, with rainwater running through them.

To solve this, our team carried out a full lime-based restoration and insulation retrofit:
Removed all cement-based materials
Applied a Roman waterproofing lime base coat to stop moisture ingress
Installed Cocciopesto (terracotta-lime) plaster with expanded amorphous microsilica for thermal insulation
Finished with Aerogel-lime super-insulating plaster to maximise energy efficiency

The result is a dry, warm, and breathable interior that preserves the historic stone fabric while meeting modern performance standards.

After ten months of a wet winter and spring, the tower remains dry, warm, and resilient — a testament to the power of authentic lime technology in heritage restoration.
