The 148X runs between Shepherds Bush / Notting Hill Gate and Victoria. The route only stops around 2 or 3 times. It follows route 148, which currently runs from Shepherds Bush to Camberwell Green. The 148X has been introduced to reduce crowding on the 148 during the Notting Hill Carnival.

The 148X runs every 11 to 12 minutes. It runs from Between l, the route runs between Shepherds Bush and Victoria. Between , buses only run between Notting Hill Gate and Victoria.

The 148X started running on Sunday the 24th of August 2025. It will only run until Monday the 25th of August 2025, when the carnival ends. As the Notting Hill Carnival is a yearly event, The 148X could make a return next year.

According to the TfL website, the 148X serves 5 stops towards Victoria. And 6 stops towards Shepherds Bush. Towards Victoria, buses are supposed to serve Shepherd's Bush Station, Palace Garden (for the Notting Hill Carnival), Marble Arch (Bayswater Road), Marble Arch (Park Lane) and Bressenden Lane (Victoria).
In reality, buses stop at Shepherd's Bush Station, Palace Garden, Marble Arch (Park Lane) and Victoria Station.

Towards Shepherd's Bush, the 148X is meant to serve Grosvenor Gardens, Hyde Park Corner, Marble Arch, Marble Arch (Bayswater Road), Notting Hill Gate Station (for the Notting Hill Carnival) and Shepherd's Bush Station. In reality, buses do not stop at Hyde Park Corner or Marble Arch (Bayswater Road).

Route 148X is operated by First Bus London, the same company who run the regular 148. The 148X uses AD BYD Enviro400 City EVs from 2019 and 2022. With occasional New Routemaster hybrid strays. The 148X runs from Shepherd's Bush (S) garage.
