🔵 Paper- Handmade paper, size- 30 x 21cm. **** You can use any handmade paper suitable for watercolor.

To use watercolor paint step-by-step, start by wetting your paper (wet-on-wet for soft blends) or leaving it dry (wet-on-dry for control), then apply diluted paint in light layers, letting each dry before adding darker colors or details, mastering the water-to-paint ratio for transparency, and remembering to build from light to dark values for depth and vibrancy. Experiment with tilting paper and dabbing excess water for unique effects, always using good watercolor paper for best results. 



Step 1: Prepare Your Space & Paper Gather Supplies: 


You'll need watercolor paints (pans or tubes), brushes (various sizes), a palette, two jars of clean water (one for rinsing, one for mixing), paper towels, and good watercolor paper (100% cotton is ideal).


Secure Paper: Tape down your watercolor paper to a board to prevent buckling as it gets wet. 



Step 2: Understand Water & Paint Ratios


More Water = Lighter Color: Less paint, more water creates transparent washes.


Less Water = Stronger Color: More paint, less water gives more intense, opaque color.


Test: Always test your mix on a scrap piece of paper first. 



Step 3: Master Basic Techniques


Wet-on-Dry (Control): Apply wet paint onto dry paper for crisp edges and precise placement.


Wet-on-Wet (Softness): Apply wet paint onto wet paper (or a wash of water). The colors will bleed and blend softly, perfect for skies.


Graded Wash (Gradient): Apply a wet, diluted color at the top of tilted paper, gradually adding more pigment or less water as you go down, letting the color get darker or lighter. 




Step 4: Paint in Layers (Light to Dark)


Lightest Values First: Start with your lightest colors and large shapes using a wet-on-wet wash.


Let it Dry: Allow layers to dry completely before adding more paint to keep colors separate and build intensity.


Add Middle Values: Paint larger shapes with slightly more concentrated color.


Add Darks & Details: Finish with your darkest colors and fine details, as they are most important for defining the scene. 



Step 5: Experiment & Refine


Mix Colors: 


Combine colors on your palette or directly on the paper (e.g., Red + Blue = Purple).


Lift Color: Use a damp brush or paper towel to lift excess paint for highlights or softer edges.


Keep Practicing: Watercolor is intuitive; the more you experiment with water, paint, and paper, the more you'll learn what works.
