Bill turned 74 this past September 2023. A belated birthday to you, sir. Thanks for all the inspiration to my guitar playing . . . And for making me a fusion head, you and John McLaughlin both! Long live jazz rock fusion, the fountain of youth, soul wise that is.

Connors indeed had rapid fire picking of notes. Al D was more noted for his percussive voicing due to palm muting on his riffs. This allowed a unique explosive dynamic in his solos where he built from a quieter palm muted set of notes that he then removed the muting and the volume change was immediately louder like a tap tap tap into a sudden Hendrixian wall of overdriven notes. Now those moments were a rush to experience but after hearing that style over and over…well, it got predictable and boring (to me at least) but Connors’ unpredictable emotive runs were exactly the kind of fusion that made fusion interesting. It still gives me chills to this day.

There is such a lack of adequate coverage of the great music of Return to Forever featuring the amazing Bill Connors on guitar. I decided to yet again fill the void, so to speak, and collect some of the finer moments of Return to Forever playing live with Connors burning the frets. There are several remastered live RTF shows on my channel. But I thought I'd gather live RTF snippets from many shows where Connors just sounds flat out amazing.

Enjoy Bill and the gang doing 70s fusion at its best from venues in the US and Europe.
