In this video, Tim Warner covers HTTP cookies and how your web browser interacts with websites to provide personalization. Cookies are small text files placed in your browser’s cache and retrieved by a particular web server to record certain types of data.
HTTP cookies are a tremendously useful tool that allow for quite a bit of website personalization and persistence. They do this by giving a site cues about your browsing behavior when you return to a website you’ve visited before.
They’re not executable and don’t store passwords, so you don’t have to be worried about those potential concerns. They’re tiny and don’t take up a tremendous amount of room and have a set lifespan with an expiration date.
Third-party cookies can track your browsing, so there is a privacy concern. Cookies work the same way whether you’re dealing with a desktop, laptop, tablet, or cell phone.
