China’s $20 Billion Sea Bridge That Goes Underwater | Hong Kong–Zhuhai–Macao Mega Project
Description
Imagine building a bridge so massive that even the ocean couldn’t stop it. 🌊
The Hong Kong–Zhuhai–Macao Bridge is considered the world’s longest sea-crossing bridge system, stretching about 55 kilometers. What makes it even more incredible? A 6.7 km underwater tunnel that allows vehicles to pass beneath the sea.
To build this engineering marvel, China first created two artificial islands and then connected them with an undersea tunnel. The project took 9 years to complete, used around 400,000 tons of steel, and cost nearly $20 billion.
More than 4,000 engineers and workers worked day and night to turn this vision into reality. Thanks to this mega structure, travel time between Hong Kong, Macao, and Zhuhai has been reduced from nearly 3 hours to just 45 minutes.
This bridge is not just infrastructure — it’s a symbol of modern engineering ambition.
