15 students hurt in head-on crash involving CMS bus

More than a dozen Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools students were taken to the hospital after a school bus was involved in a head-on crash in south Charlotte Wednesday morning.
The crash happened on Sharonbrook Drive, near the intersection with Sharon Road West and South Boulevard. CMS confirmed bus 222 serves South Mecklenburg High School and that 40 students were on board during the crash.
Medic said the driver was pinned in the bus but was freed by Charlotte firefighters. The driver was also taken to the hospital for evaluation. Medic said the injured students were taken to multiple hospitals for evaluation and treatment.
