A short flight in the new Farman F.60 Goliath - Red Wing Simulations - Microsoft Flight Simulator

Описание: Trying out the brand new Farman F.60 Goliath by Red Wing Simulations over Goodwood. The Goliath was originally designed to be a heavy bomber, but since it didn’t get finished before the end of WWI, and the interest in civil aviation started to grow, it was redesigned for the civil market. The first prototype of the new passenger version flew in January of 1919. Overall around 300 Goliaths were build, and were used both for cargo and passengers, as well as bomber for the military. It was used all over Europe and South America and was able to travel impressive distances and carry unusually high payloads for its time.

I have to be honest, I was a bit skeptical about purchasing Red Wings Goliath, because I thought it was a bit expensive, I wasn’t aware of the project (videos and announcements are quite common for new releases) and I was not fully convinced from the screenshots. But it was a unique vintage aircraft and the feature list sounded interesting, and after reading a couple of positive comments about it on the Flight Sim Forum, I had to try it out…and I’m glad I did!

Overall I’m very impressed with the Goliath, it is very nicely modeled, has a great soundpack, a realistic feeling flight model and a TON of features, many of them totally unique! For instance, the extensive damage model, which isn’t just for esthetics. With damaged flight surfaces it’s barely controllable, because there is a lot of control flutter and of course not really a control surface left. If you watch the video to the end, the extreme elevator deflections were not done by me. Another nice feature is the mechanic, who gives you your altitude on approach, tells you when you overspeed the airframe or when an engine fails (if you don't like him, you can turn him off).

The mixture is nicely modelled as well, with a rich mixture, the spark plugs will foul up and the engine will blow out a lot of blue smoke. With a lean mixture the engines will start to run ruff or quit. The engines in general are very nicely modeled and it is very easy to damage them. Unlike any other multi engine plane I have flown in MSFS so far, they don’t feel like a copy from each other. They sometimes require different throttle inputs, to reach the same rpm. As you can see in this video, I sadly hadn’t mapped two throttle levers, so one engine is running at a much lower rpm.

There are still a couple of minor bugs, that will be fixed I’m sure. There will also be a ton of new features in upcoming updates, including a career mode, a realistic mode and two military versions (F.65 & a torpedo seaplane).
I can fully recommend the Goliath to everyone who enjoys vintage or quirky designs, or who is up for a different challenge to your more conventional designs.

And before you say it, yes, I know the last “emergency” was horrible. I attempted to make it to the airfield, when I had massive open fields right ahead.
