At the end of March 2026 , it tried to pilot the FCRA Amendment Bill 2026
The bill is draconian and goes against the letter and spirit of the Constitution
Above all the most affected will be the poor and marginalized , the excluded and the exploited and other vulnerable sections of society!
The most contentious aspects in the Bill, is the creation of a new ‘Designated Authority’ to be notified by the Central Government. This authority would have the power to take provisional or permanent control of foreign contributions and assets (including buildings, schools, hospitals, and other infrastructure created partly or wholly from foreign funds) in cases where an organisation’s FCRA registration is cancelled, surrendered, or deemed to have ceased and when renewal is not applied for, denied, or expires.
Political parties belonging to the opposition have protested against this draconian bill and so have leading citizens from all over
The ruling regime has temporarily suspended tabling it in Parliament but it may come up in the next session
