If you have 4C natural hair and you’ve noticed split ends, dead ends, breakage, thinning, or see-through ends, this video is for you. In this video, I’m sharing why I decided to trim my natural hair, how I knew it was time for a hair trim / haircut, and what I’m doing differently to focus on healthy natural hair and length retention in 2026.
I noticed my 4c natural hair was beginning to have see through ends, which is a huge red flag in one's natural hair. See-through hair or see through ends is often a sign of split ends, dead ends, excessive breakage, or holding on to damaged length. Instead of ignoring it, I decided to take action by trimming my natural hair and reassessing my 4C natural hair care routine.
In this Natural hair maintenance video, I talk honestly about:
How split ends can travel up the hair shaft and cause more damage to our natural hair
Why avoiding hair trims can slow down natural hair growth
The difference between a hair trim, dusting of hair ends and a haircut
How trimming dead ends can actually improve length retention, especially for 4C hair
Trimming your natural hair is not about cutting hair just to cut it — it’s about learning how to listen to your natural hair and make decisions that support healthy natural hair growth and maintenance. I share my thought process, what I noticed before trimming my 4c natural hair, and why trimming my 4c hair is necessary for the long-term health of my natural hair.
I also go into detail about my plan after trimming, including how I’m working on:
Reducing breakage in my natural hair
Improving moisture retention in my 4c natural hair
Protecting my natural hair ends
Maintaining a consistent natural hair care routine
Trimming my natural hair every few months instead of waiting until damage is severe
If you’re on a natural hair journey, especially with 4C hair, and you’re struggling with split ends, thinning ends, or see-through hair ends, this video will help you understand what’s happening and how to fix it without fear or confusion.
Whether you’re trying to grow your natural hair, retain length, or simply maintain healthier ends, this hair video breaks down why hair trims matter in natural hair care and how they fit into a long-term hair growth and length retention routine.
