This video from the British Compressed Gases Association (BCGA) looks at a new generation of buses powered by compressed biogas gas in Nottingham, which are setting a blueprint for a green, cost-effective and high-performance fleet.

The world’s largest number of double-decker buses powered by the gas are working in the city – and proving their worth on a day-to-day basis.

Nottingham City Transport (NCT) has introduced the buses – supported with funding from the Government’s Office for Low Emission Vehicles (OLEV).

They deliver a range of benefits, including significant pollution reduction, with greatly reduced particulates and Nitrogenous Oxides to impact on air quality.

The buses are also taking down the cost of motoring, with economic advantages in the cost of refuelling in comparison to conventional fuels.

And such advances don’t compromise on performance. Each bus has a driving range of 250 miles and – of benefit for drivers, passengers and pedestrians alike – is the significant reduction in operating noise on the road.

BCGA member company Roadgas has undertaken the engineering works for the project.
The commercialisation of compressed natural gas (CNG) and liquefied natural gas (LNG) is making rapid progress in internal combustion engines for heavy vehicles such as buses, as well as trucks.
