Описание: This is a teaser trailer for a movie concept based on Einojuhani Rautavaara's 1985 opera called Thomas.

The first surviving letter written in Finland was by Thomas, one of Finland's first Bishops, who signed a letter in Nousiainen in 1234. This letter granted certain lands around the parish to his chaplain, Wilhelm. With papal permission from Pope Gregory IX in early 1229, the church took over all non-Christian places of worship in Finland.

Bishop Thomas resigned when Bero, the Chancellor of the Swedish King, was appointed. Pope Innocent IV apparently had no idea about the bishop's activities before granting Thomas' resignation on February 21, 1245.

According to the Pope, Thomas admitted to committing several felonies, like torturing a man to death and forging a papal letter. Church representatives to oversee the resignation were the Archbishop of Uppsala and the Dominican prior of the Dacian province.

Thomas donated his books to the newly established Dominican convent in Sigtuna and went on to live his last years in the Dominican convent in Visby, Gotland. He died there in 1248, shortly before the Second Swedish Crusade, which cemented the Swedish rule in Finland for more than 550 years.
Thomas’s goal was to first overthrow the Eastern Pope in the infidel city of Novgorod, then to create an independent papal state in Finland, and eventually become the ruler.

The outcome of the attack was a failure that resulted in the deaths of nearly all of the men on the crusading side. Thomas' goals were not achieved before his condemnation. Still, ultimately, in the years that followed his death, the age-old Kalevala shamanist culture and the sprouting Christian culture merged and reshaped Finnish identity and nationality.

For centuries, Bishop Thomas’s personality has been a topic of discussion, and the mystery of his mission is still told throughout Finland today.
