✨ About the Festival:
Believed to have been started either by Nawab Murshid Quli Khan or Nawab Siraj-ud-Daulah, Bera Utsav is celebrated every year on the last Thursday of the Bengali month of Bhadra. The word Bera means "boat" in Persian, and the festival revolves around the symbolic launching of a beautifully decorated bamboo raft (vela) carrying four artistic "Mayurpankhis" — peacock-shaped structures made of black paper and colorful decorations.

📜 History & Significance:
Originally, the Nawabs used ornate boats to send gifts to the Mughal Emperor in Delhi. Over time, this ceremonial event turned into a grand public festival. It is also associated with the worship of Khwaja Khizr, a revered saint of water in both pre-Islamic and Islamic traditions. The raft is launched after traditional rituals, music, and prayers, with cannon fire from the iconic Topekhana Ghat marking the moment.
