"I watched as my brother was thrown into the fire. His body still lies there." This is the story of a Mohammad Salim who was hidden by his Hindu neighbour, reported by Suryatapa Mukherjee (@SuriMukherjee).
His brother was not as fortunate. He saw his brother being shot twice and then thrown into the fire. He has since been trying to get the police to help him retrieve the body but it has been days and no help has arrived.
"If other Hindus find out I have rescued you, they will call me a traitor," his Hindu neighbour said and helped him and his children escape by painting a tilak on their foreheads.
His house was looted, then burned, and finally smashed. "I have lost everything except my life."
