BMW 335i Piston Ring DID NOT Fail! Block FULLY Torn Down | N54 Engine Build Pt. 2 | 4K

Описание: Alright we're back at it in part two of our N54 engine build. We started with the block semi torn down but still had to remove some accessories on the front of the block and the water pump/thermostat assembly. We also get the connecting rod/pistons, bedplate and crankshaft out in this video. Both the main bearings and connecting rod bearings don't look too hot.

We weren't surprised - considering we preach that an exact cause of failure cannot be determined until the block is FULLY torn down. I presumed a piston ring failed and caused damage to our liner. That was not the case. The rings are intact and the ring land is not damaged. There is some visible damage on the piston itself - most likely caused by debris that entered the crankcase at some point.

The rod bearings were recently replaced and they're smoked. Assumption at the time of this teardown is that the failure caused debris contamination that made its way to the connecting rod bearings. What do you guys and gals think happened?
