Taking a Walk in Our Food Forest - early summer 2024

Описание: Madeleine takes us on a walk through our food forest garden here in northern California in early summer, 2024. We planted the first fruit trees and berry bushes and other perennials starting in 2013-14, and have been continuing to plant more trees and other plants and build the soil and create raised beds and over the past 10 years. Still somewhat young for a food forest, but coming along, and hope we can provide some helpful perspectives and inspiration with this short video. We are up to 75 fruit and nut trees and 6 raised beds of veggies, plus the berries, herbs, flowers, grapes, and other plantings. Land area is only about 1/4 acre.

We have never used any pesticides or chemical fertilizers, or any bone meal, blood meal, fish meal, or animal manure to build the soil, so everything is grown both organically and also veganically. Every year we add at least one new layer of wood chips, as well as compost and compost tea: this has worked well in building the soil and increasing fertility. We also use glacial mineral dust and potash to remineralize the soil as well as Effective Microorganisms to increase soil health, and other organic vegan amendments and lots of TLC.
