Tirumala TTD Silk Dupatta Scam ₹54-Crore Fraud Exposed After Fake Ghee and Donation Theft Controversies

Another major scam has surfaced at the Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanam (TTD). Massive fraud has been detected in silk dupattas supplied to the temple administration between 2015 and 2025. A Vigilance Department investigation revealed that polyester dupattas were supplied under the guise of 'silk', and were charged crores of rupees. The amount of this scam is estimated to be over ₹54 crore.
According to sources, a contractor supplied approximately 15,000 dupattas at a rate of ₹1,389 per piece and claimed they were "silk dupattas." However, when samples were sent to two labs, including the Central Silk Board, for testing, the report clearly revealed that the dupattas were not made of genuine silk, but entirely of polyester.

Reacting to the matter, TTD Chairman B.R. Naidu said, "We have found some irregularities in the procurement department. We have taken serious cognizance of this and have handed over the investigation to the ACB."

Has TTD been embroiled in controversies before?

1. Fake Ghee and Adulteration Case (2024): In September 2024, a stir was created when the then Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh alleged that the ghee used in the sacred laddus of Tirupati may not be pure cow ghee but adulterated. Following this, a Special Investigation Team (SIT) was formed under the supervision of the CBI and an investigation into the entire supply chain began.
2 Parakamani Case (2023): On April 29, 2023, C.V. Ravi Kumar, a clerk in the Parakamani department, was arrested. He was accused of embezzling donations made by devotees in the Srivari Hundi.
3 Following these controversies, the ₹54 crore silk dupatta scam is again raising questions about the transparency of the temple administration.
