Join us for SES Explorer Talk with Rosie Stancer and Pom Oliver talking about their Aral Kum expedition.

British explorers and polar adventurers Rosie Stancer (who is also Chair of the Society's Honorary Advisory Board) and Pom Oliver are no strangers to extreme expeditions.

In August 2021, Rosie was accompanied by her erstwhile polar and expedition teammate of long, Pom through the grit, salt pans, sand drifts, and mud of one of the planet’s youngest deserts, born of what is recognised as one of our planet’s worst man-made environmental disasters. The Aral Kum. The expedition served as a clarion call to the devastating effect of water drainage to feed, primarily, the thirst of the cotton industry which, in turn, feeds our own appetite for fast fashion.
Whilst observing the legacy of what fast fashion has bequeathed the planet, they learned what measures have been and are being undertaken to redeem the situation and their efficacy.

In their talk, Rosie and Pom will share anecdotes and findings from this grueling expedition.
