Garlic (Allium sativum) is an important condiment crop of Pakistan and different varieties are planted all over the country. Weed may lead to utter failure of garlic if not properly managed well in time. In this video, we have suggested the best solution of pre emergence weedicide but comparison of herbicides has also been discussed. Pre emergence spray of oxyfluorfen (Hadaf –Evyol group) @ 300 ml/acre has been suggested as the best herbicide for long shot weed control in garlic. Pendimethalin (Stomp of FMC) is also very safe herbicide but it is less effective against Jangli halon or swine cress (Coronopus didymus), nut sedge (cyperus rotundus) and many other weeds. It may be used @ 1000 ml/acre a day after planting of garlic. S metolachlor (for example Dual gold of Syngenta) is declared as phytotoxix herbicide for garlic. It can only be applied if Deela or purple nut sedge (cyperus rotundus) is likely to be found as major weed. According to our
package of weed control, one hand weeding within a period of 45 days after planting has also been recommended.
