New Swapo councillors prioritise land, housing & services in Walvis Bay - nbc

Описание: The newly elected Swapo Party councillors for the Walvis Bay Municipal Council and the urban and rural constituencies will prioritise the provision of land and housing, road repairs, and improved waste removal.

This is according to the Swapo Party District Co-ordinator for Walvis Bay Rural, Patrick Bathromeus.

Since Thursday, Swapo Party members have been celebrating their victory in the Regional Councils and Local Authorities elections at Walvis Bay.

The party secured all seven seats on the Erongo Regional Council and reclaimed its dominance on the Walvis Bay Municipal Council.

Swapo's seats on the local authority increased from three to five, while the Independent Patriots for Change dropped from four seats to three.

The Joint Walvis Bay Residents Association retained one seat, and the Affirmative Repositioning Movement gained one seat.

"We are so happy. We have worked so hard for this moment, so it is our big day to enjoy today. Of course, we have said we are reclaiming Walvis Bay. Now, what we are going to do is repair. That's very serious business that we will not take for granted," said Bathromeus.

According to the coordinator, housing and land delivery, road upgrades, and effective waste collection in Walvis Bay will be prioritised by the Swapo councillors.

"Housing is the first thing. Everybody wants to have something they can call home. Of course, you know from 2015 to 2020 we worked hard to create a place where we could house our people – that is Farm 37."

The Swapo councillors require at least six votes in their favour to pass the motions they table in the Walvis Bay Municipal Council.

"It is obvious that we have five seats, and to have the majority, we need six seats to make an informed decision. So we are open to any party that wants to work with us, provided that they align themselves with the Swapo Party manifesto, because we have a working document – the Swapo Party implementation plan."

The co-ordinator added that the councillors will ensure that once the contract of the debt collector Red Force comes to an end, it will not be renewed.
