Описание: Abstract:
The common approach for specifying core geometry in multicore optical fibers (MCF) is to use the core radial position (relative to the cladding center) and the pitch between core pairs. This works well to describe the nominal MCF features but is inadequate to properly tolerance the core positions (i.e. restrict core positional errors in a manufactured MCF). A better approach is to perform an optimized alignment of the manufactured MCF against a “master” template of the MCF design core positions. This approach produces consistent, easily understood limits on core positional errors and generalizes to more complicated core patterns.

About the Presenter:
Alan McCurdy is currently a Distinguished Member of Technical Staff at Lightera. He works on noise and fiber measurement problems in optical fiber communications. Alan has worked in telecommunications since joining the Enterprise Networks Group at Lucent Technologies in 1998. Prior to that, he spent nine years on the Electrical Engineering faculty of the University of Southern California working in high power microwave research. He earned B.S. degrees in Chemical Engineering and Physics from Carnegie Mellon University, and M.Phil. and Ph.D. degrees from Yale University. He is a member of IEEE and Optica.
