My first ever National Cross Country Championships, and what an experience it was. The Nationals have always been a bucket‑list race for me — especially the iconic Parliament Hill event — but with the championships coming to the North East for the first time in 13 years, this felt like the perfect moment to finally take part.
Going into the race, my plan was simple: keep the opening laps steady to avoid triggering headaches and give myself the best chance of enjoying the run. Thankfully, the strategy paid off. I settled into a controlled rhythm, soaked up the atmosphere, and saved enough to push hard when it mattered.
On the final lap, I teamed up with fellow North Shields Poly runner Mark Barrett, and together we started moving through the field — overtaking runners, building momentum, and even finding something close to a sprint finish at the end.
This video captures the full experience: the course, the conditions, the atmosphere, and what it feels like to take on the National XC Championships for the very first time. Hopefully it won’t be my last.
Повторяем попытку...
