I have a strange obsession for west coast jazz from the 50's. I find it refreshing to the ears and if you search, there's a nice wide variety of ideas from a variety of players.
Today I listened to the André Previn album with a lion on the cover called King Size!. I'm curious how rehearsed this was and how much preparation Previn did with all this. That brush work by Frankie Capp can be ridiculously thrilling and Red Mitchell's massive bass sound makes me want to listen to this over and over and over again. But there are some strange high notes... or is that the bass player having a nice time?
