Steam distillation is one of the most do-able chemical experiments at home.
Plant oils like the lemon essential oil not only produces good scent, but it also provides a number of health benefits.
This particular steam distillation experiment is done also to demonstrate the use of Ethanol as solvent, instead of N-Hexane.
N-Hexane is known to be the most widely used solvent for steam distillation, but some studies suggest similar results when Ethanol is used.
Just like the research suggests, the steam distillation and oil separation result is highly positive with the use of Ethanol.
