Berkeley Engineering's executive associate dean, Per Peterson, introduces a panel for the "Fun, games, and the new frontier: Augmented reality and cognition" event during Berkeley Engineering's Homecoming and Parents Weekend Program on October 1, 2016.
From desktops and laptops to tablet computers and cell phones, we have found many ways to embed computing in our physical world. Augmented reality and cognition form the next frontier in the evolving human-machine relationship. Berkeley researchers at the Center for Augmented Cognition (CAC) are studying ways to expand human cognitive capabilities by exploring everything from new robot interfaces and self-driving cars to telesurgery while bringing fresh approaches to performing arts and gaming. They will share what the future of mixed-immersive environments will look like and the possible new applications for these emerging technologies. The panel, hosted by Dean Shankar Sastry, will include Electrical Engineering and Computer Sciences Professors Anca Dragan, Björn Hartmann and CAC Director Allen Yang. Following the talk, explore this new dimension in Jacobs Hall with hands-on demos and activities hosted by the Virtual Reality @Berkeley student club.
