I conclude the Later Years with the cornerstone of my journey and the anthem of my life's focus: People. Originally from Funny Girl, this song changed my life and inspired me to sing about Oneness and Love. It is the ultimate American Standard that exemplifies my Sacred Mission—the belief that being loved and connected is the soul's main purpose. Barbra sings this with such honest truth; her Academy Award-winning performance is why I fell in love with her voice. This final performance is a tribute to that powerful inspiration and a celebration of my own life finally made whole through connection and love.
Hello and welcome to my YouTube exposé, The Streisand in Me: Later Years. As the champion of the divine feminine, Barbra taught me the meaning of authenticity. After forty years of being openly gay, I have released all fear to embrace my own divine spirit and sing magnificent songs once considered off-limits. I refuse to let the world dictate my voice, honouring Barbra’s principle of only performing what she feels in her bones.
People 8.6 ~ Later Years ~ The Streisand in Me Original Album People (1964) Writers: Jule Styne & Bob Merrill
The Barbra Streisand Foundation was formed in 1986 following the Chernobyl disaster and her first backyard concert. This wonderful divine feminine has a big heart and she takes care of it, raising over 50 million dollars for women's heart health and civil liberties for all. She pioneered the industry as the first woman to write, produce, direct, and star in a major studio film, using art for change. Her genius has been supported by lifelong creative relationships like Marty Erlichman, the Bergmans, Michel Legrand, and Marvin Hamlisch. Barbra transforms vulnerability into emotional mastery, and her philanthropic spirit continues to inspire my own sacred activism.
Barbra is a force of nature whose soul illuminates every word. This series is a tribute to the inspiration she provides for a man who found his unwavering voice through her art. Join me in The Streisand in Me as I embrace her spirit within the Great American Songbook. Barbra’s albums became my gospel and the teacher that gave me confidence to claim my voice. Though I studied architecture, fear held me back until 1980 when I finally broke the mold and moved to Toronto. As the champion of the divine feminine and LGBTQ+ community, Barbra taught me authenticity. At 67, and after 40 years of being openly gay, I have released all fear to embrace my own divine spirit and passionately sing these magnificent songs.
My story begins in 1961 Detroit, where my future stepmother witnessed an eighteen-year-old Barbra’s raw power. In 1963, the night Barbra debuted on Ed Sullivan, my mother passed away. This loss led my father to my stepmother, who brought nine Streisand albums that sat hidden for a decade. Before Barbra, Judy Garland and the Carpenters were my muses, but everything changed on February 16, 1975, when I watched the premiere of Funny Girl. Streisand’s performance ignited my secret desire to sing. My stepmother gifted me those original albums, and I soon owned 15 to fuel me through college. I never bought another Carpenters record. Today, I have transformed 140 instrumentals into karaoke videos on my Dolphin Karaoke channel, using 31 as backing for my exposé, The Streisand in Me.
