Yehliu Geopark in Taiwan might be one of the most surreal landscapes in the world — and we experienced it as a full family day trip from Taipei.

Located along Taiwan’s northern coast, Yehliu Geopark is famous for its alien-like rock formations, including the iconic Queen’s Head, mushroom rocks, and dramatic ocean cliffs shaped by wind and sea over millions of years.

We hiked the full loop (about 2 miles / 3.2 km) in nearly 100-degree heat and accidentally took the longer route. I thought there would be ice cream or a gift shop waiting at the end… but we discovered something better — pride, accomplishment, and one of the most unique natural wonders we’ve ever seen. We celebrated with a mango smoothie back at the base.

Our kids absolutely loved exploring and investigating the rocks, coastal plants, and tide pools. It felt like a spectacular outdoor classroom — a powerful, hands-on opportunity to teach them about geology, erosion, marine ecosystems, and the natural forces that shape our planet.
