Mark Carney Visits Ataturk’s Mausoleum In Historic First Turkey Visit By Canadian PM

Описание: Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney visited the mausoleum of Mustafa Kemal Ataturk in Ankara on October 22, 2026, during the first official bilateral visit to Turkey by a Canadian prime minister. Carney laid a wreath at the memorial honouring modern Turkey’s founding father.

The three-day visit aims to strengthen diplomatic and economic ties between Canada and Turkey, both NATO allies. Carney is scheduled to meet Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan to discuss trade, energy, mining, defence cooperation and investment.

The visit comes as Canada seeks to diversify its international trade partnerships and reduce its reliance on the United States. The two countries are also pursuing negotiations towards a comprehensive free-trade agreement.
