So let’s get into it, the top 7 mistakes finasteride users make.

NOT ALLOWING ENOUGH TIME FOR RESULTS

So we’re starting off with what is probably the most common mistake.

And that’s not giving the treatment enough time to work.

Now finasteride in this respect is like any hair loss treatment– be it pharmaceutical or natural. You need some time to start seeing results.

So the minimum time before the first signs of regrowth is 3 months.

Now you’ll see this 3-month figure popping up all over the place when it comes to hair loss treatments, including minoxidil.

And the reason being, that is the amount of time required for the dormant follicles to switch from the resting phase to the growth phase of their cycle and for the new hair to grow sufficiently. Long enough to actually pop out of the scalp.

So it is physiologically impossible for any dormant follicles to give new hair sooner than 3 months.

That is the absolute minimum to see any sort of change.

But, having said that, in order to appreciate fully the treatment’s efficacy, you need to allow much longer. Basically one full year. At the end of one year, you will have your more or less “final” results.
And at that point you can make an informed decision on whether you want to continue treatment long term.

EXPERIMENTING WITH CONCURRENT MINOXIDIL

Ok so here’s the deal on combining finasteride with minoxidil.

You have to be committed to stick to it for the long run. You have to be in or be out, at the start.

So just saying oh, why don’t I also try minoxidil for 5-6 months as an experiment? And then I can quit – that’s not a good idea.

The reason?

Well, finasteride and minoxidil work in completely different ways. Not just the way you take them – obviously – but on the molecular level.

So finasteride is a classic DHT blocker, but minoxidil’s action is completely unrelated to DHT.

Meaning that if you’ve already been on finasteride for some time and then add minoxidil, you are indeed likely to grow some extra hair. Though it probably won’t be much.

The problem comes when you stop the minoxidil.
