Описание: Although the idea of learning to curse may initially appear problematic, there exists a genuine benefit to this scenario! This individual acquired such language from their natural environment—a skill not all learners possess. Utilizing the ability to learn in the natural environment provides us with an opportunity to strategically teach a replacement behavior.

1. Make sure that all adults in in the learner’s environment are very mindful with their language. Model language such as “oh no” or “bummer” ALL of the time, so that is what he is hearing and may potentially imitate (no judgment here, I curse too).
2. Contrive scenarios for adults: Alongside integrating those phrases into everyday interactions, adults should contrive additional opportunities to casually drop objects or make minor mistakes, allowing for the organic use of those phrases.
3. Contrive scenarios for the learner: if the learner says “bummer” in contrived scenarios, adults should respond “that is a bummer” and make it enthusiastic while keeping it natural.
4. Differential reinforcement: When the learner curses, adults should casually model “bummer.” If he echoes, adults should provide an enthusiastic “yeah, that really is a bummer!” Cursing didn’t get much attention but “bummer” got a lot.
5. It was stated that after he curses people say, “No, say bummer.” The “no” could be reinforcing cursing. I would drop the “no” and just say “bummer,” “oh man,” or something similar.
