Why does expensive specialty coffee keep pulling sour shots?
In this video, I explain the fundamental tension between how specialty coffee is evaluated (optimized for filter brewing) and how traditional espresso actually works (high concentration, milk drinks, different flavor targets).
Important disclaimer: I'm intentionally not giving you a specific price point or roast level to look for, because that depends entirely on your context and preferences.
What I am saying is that within a roaster's lineup, the cheaper option is often better for traditional home espresso. If they're selling a $13 blend and a $25 single origin omni roast, the blend will probably be easier to dial in and taste more balanced.
